چکیده

At. Most bacteriologists held that the old Voges?SKauer's test (1898) was not a satisfactory test for the differentiation of the coli-serogenes group of organisms. During carbohydrate fermentation by the aerogenes group of bacilli, acetoin (acetylmethyl carbinol) is formed, and this is detected by caustic potash and peptone. Acetoin is oxidized to diacetyl, and this reacts with caustic potash and peptone and gives a faint

Comparison of reagent-impregnated paper strips and conventional tests for distinguishing Escherichia from Aerobacter: correlation with colonial morphology.

The means for distinguishing Escherichia from Aerobacter (Enterobacter) differ in laboratories and range from complete dependence on colonial reactions on typical gram-negative media to reliance on one or more of the classical indole, methyl red, Voges-Proskauer, citrate (IMViC) parameters. Three colonial types (one prejudged as Escherichia) of lactose-positive rods were catalogued on each of t...

Effect of acetate upon the formation of acetoin in Klebsiella and Enterobacter and it possible practical application in a rapid voges-proskauer test.

Acetate stimulates the formation of acetoin during 1-h incubation of Voges-Proskauer-positive strains of Klebsiella and Enterobacter. Of these organisms, 124 of 126 strains were recognized as positive in the presence of acetate, and 106 were recognized as positive in its absence.

Practical substitution for the indol, methyl red, Voges-Proskauer, citrate system.

A substitution for the indole, methyl red, Voges-Proskauer, citrate system is proposed. The scheme employs indole and ampicillin susceptibility tests routinely and uses selectively three other media for six reactions.

Fluorometric measurement of creatine kinase activity.

SERUM CREATINE KINASE activity has beell measured by determining the amount of creatine liberated in the following reaction: ADI + creatine phosphate ATP + creatine. The Voges-Proskauer reactioii, production of a color by reaction of creatille with diacetyl alid -naphthol, has heeii used to measure enzymatically released creatine (1-5). The presence of a sulfhydryl compound in tile incubatioii ...

The Fermentation of Acetyl-Methyl-Carbinol by the Escherichia-Aerobacter Group and Its Significance in the Voges-Proskauer Reaction.

The ability of certain members of the Aerobacter genus to ferment acetyl-methyl-carbinol is indicated by their transitory Voges-Proskauer reactions. These strains produce acetylmethyl-carbinol from glucose and, consequently, yield positive Voges-Proskauer reactions after incubation for from one to three days in Clark and Lubs' medium (1915). When incubation is continued for longer periods, howe...
